2008 Dwelling Stock data available

Dwelling Stock by Council Tax band, at all geographic level, is now available in the Housing category of the Statistical data sets within LSR-Online.

A Council Tax dwelling is accommodation normally lived in by one or more households. Temporary structures (eg. caravans) are counted as dwellings if they are the sole or main residence of a household. This definition establishes ownership, occupation and liability. Census 2001 defines a dwelling as accommodation that is physically self-contained. Therefore shared accommodation is treated differently and these two dwelling counts are not comparable.

Place Survey 2008 - final data release

The final data release, which includes the results for all 26 survey questions and the 18 National Indicator questions, is now available on LSR-Online.

The results are presented in an interactive tool tabulated by survey category and by local authority.

Within each interactive tool the response to a particular survey question is displayed in a spine chart that also shows the relative response at regional and national level.

There is a grade (A to E) associated with each question’s response that reflects its value relative to all the authorities across England (click on the Notes button within the tool for more details).

By using the Filter button it is also possible to compare an authority to it’s:

Top 10 nearest statistical neighbours (based on the CIPFA Stats model - click on the Notes button within the tool for more details)
Regional Neighbours
ONS group e.g. Manufacturing Towns, New & Growing Towns etc.
CPA Direction of travel 2008
CPA Star Category 2008 e.g. 4 star authorities

By using the interactive tools it is possible to find the following examples of information:

Blaby, compared to its 10 nearest statistical neighbours, has the best score for drunk and rowdy behaviour not being a problem in the local area (National Indicator 41).

Leicester City, compared to its 10 nearest statistical neighbours, is second only to Coventry City Council as having the best response for people who are satisfied with the local police force (Local Services - Qu 7).

Harborough, compared to its 10 nearest statistical neighbours, comes second in the best response for people who do not think teenagers’ hanging around the streets is a very big or fairly big problem (Community Safety – Qu 24 ii).

Leicestershire, using the Authority filter is shown to be 12th out of the 27 county councils in relation to how satisfied people are with how the county council run things (Local Services - Qu 10).

Oadby & Wigston, when compared to Leicester City and the other district councils in Leicestershire, had the highest number of residents who overall feel most informed about local public services (Local Decision Making – Qu 12 viii).

Melton, when compared to Leicester City and the other district councils in Leicestershire, had the highest number of respondents who felt that health services most need improving (About Local Area – Qu 2).

It is also useful that once such information is formulated in the interactive tool, it can be printed or exported to a jpg file simply by right clicking anywhere on the tool.
