OAC Explorer

OAC Explorer is an interactive interface for exploring the demographics of Britain. It presents the Output Area Classification (OAC) geodemographic classifier (which categorises local populations in > 200,000 output areas) in a postcode hierarchy as a hierarchical rectangular cartogram in which areas are sized by their population. For each output area, the original 41 census variables are presented as parallel plots, along with uncertainty measures which are conveyed through colour lightness using perceptually-uniform colour schemes.
