Report : Social Capital and Community Cohesion

Date: Wed 25th January, 2006

Description: Research Centre explores notions of social capital and community cohesion.

The Centre for Social Action, De Montfort University, Leicester, has a long track record of working alongside community groups as partners when carrying out research, training or consultancy. This includes training community members and service-users as researchers and evaluators in qualitative and quantitative methods. Recently Centre staff have been exploring the concepts of social capital, developing tools for exploring the form it takes within groups and communities of various kinds and looking for ways in which these insights can be shared with community members, service providers and policy makers. A new initiative involves using a social capital framework to develop indicators for community cohesion.
