Census 2011

Background

Every decade the Census provides us with a comprehensive picture of the nation. It counts the numbers of people living in each city, town and country area. It tells us about each area and its population, including the balance of young and old, what jobs people do, and the type of housing they live in. This information allows central and local government to target resources more effectively and to plan housing, education, health and transport services for years to come.

When is the 2011 Census data released?

There are four main releases of Census 2011 data between July 2012 and October 2013. Please see this guide: what ONS are producing and when

The First Release of data

For the First Release of data we have produced a short report and an interactive visualisation (requires Internet Explorer 8 or comparable browser).

The Second Release of data

The first phase of the Second Release data was released on November 23rd. For this release we have produced a short report and an interactive visualisation (requires Internet Explorer 8 or comparable browser). A Local Authority Key Statistics dashboard is also available.

The second phase of the Second Release was released on December 11th (report here).

The Third Release of data
